2023 Advanced Classes Performing “Enough! Plays to End Gun Violence” as a nationwide event with special Long Beach invited guests such as the City of Long Beach, etc.

Advanced Class will be performing “30 Neo-Futurist Plays from Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind (30 Plays in 60 Minutes)” by Greg Allen on December 6th and 7th 6:30. Ticket Information TBA

Intermediate Class will be performing “The Internet is Distract - Oh Look A Kitten” by Ian McWethy on December 16th for invited audiences and classes from Roosevelt Elementary.

Play Production Class (Qualified Juniors/Seniors in their 2nd-4th year)

When indifferent student Garbiela Nettles is inexplicably admitted to the prestigious Doves Forge Academy, all she wants to do is leave. But before she can get herself expelled, Garbiela starts to hear sounds that no one else hears: ghost echoes from the remnants of a long-ago tragedy in the school’s theatre. As she investigates the sounds (by joining the disastrous play in progress), Garbiela uncovers a story that’s both surprising and surprisingly moving. Theatrically staged using the production’s audience and live sound effects, Ghostlight has hilarious characters, unexpected twists, and a riotous finale.

This is the 10th year of an annual event.  Class winners compete for a cash prize with the rhythm, emotion, and wordplay of Slam Poetry, punctuated by Poly’s award-winning instrumental jazz ensemble.  Qualified judges determine the winner.

Student-Written one-act plays

Advanced (Qualified 2nd/3rd year) Students have the unusual opportunity to work with a professional screenwriter and actor from the National High School Institute of Northwestern University, one of the top theatre/film universities in the nation. Students are guided to write their own original one-act plays. Several are selected to be produced each year. We call this "Poly Productions".
