Theatre Class Placement

The Fall Play, Mental Health Play, and Shakesperience are rehearsed within their Theatre Arts class periods, and so are not open to other Poly students for audition. Poly Productions is primarily cast from Intermediate as well. Sign up for a class!

Theatre Arts Classes - Placement:

Introduction to Theatre, Intermediate, Advanced, and Play Production are classes which are designed to be unique, challenging, and valuable to any student who wants to develop these skills. However, sometimes a student wishes to skip a level in this progression.

Skipping a class level depends on student talent and experience, and availability of space. Current qualified Theatre Arts students have priority. Any Theatre Arts student with a B or higher and professionalism in their behavior will progress to the next level. Mrs. Bon will see placement auditions for the following school year in April. She will also see auditions the first 3 weeks of school for possible transfer.

Skipping Intermediate or Advanced:

Sometimes Mrs. Bon will promote a student to a higher level than the next course in sequence. This is a decision made by Mrs. Bon depending on talent and work ethic based on class observation and the audition built into drama classes. Qualified students who have taken prerequisite courses have priority, and this is based upon classroom space availability. An advantage to skipping a class level might be successful involvement in the Polyesters Team (September tryouts) or the school Musical (November tryouts).

ATHLETES: Because Play Production is typically connected to after-school rehearsals (7th or 8th), athletes sometimes find it hard to fit into their schedule. Athletes who love Theatre Arts may continue to progress in Theatre Arts by repeating a year within the Intermediate/Advanced period (3rd or 4th). They will be eligible for involvement in shows as they are available.

*AUDITION: a one to two minute memorized monologue from a published play. Also, be prepared to discuss the play and choices you made about character based on the play.
